Dang, spent too much on this Strider

It was an impulse buy, I saw it and had to have it. Paid $700 and can't believe I did that... damn. Tadgear AR's go for about $500 so I'm paying $200 for the Ti scales... geez... good thing my insurance decided to pay one of my bills, or maybe not. If they hadn't paid, I wouldn't have bought the knife. Still shaking my head over this one.

Congrats, a beautiful knife. I am no Strider expert but it seems to me that with the blade grind and handle scales it's not a standard model - maybe custom? So you might put it a way and buy a user AR or GB or SMF ;) . Where I live the Striders and any other such like manufacturers are not available. I bought a Buck/Strider/Tarani a few weeks back and I am converted and lusting for a Strider SMF and a AR and a RS fixed blade and, and .....

I have seen that knife before, but I can't think who did the conversion job. Excellent score! Don't worry about the money...you will eventually make more.

You're right, I can't believe you did that either. Maybe if you sent the knife to me, to get rid of that negative energy, you'll feel much better. Well, at least one of us will feel better... :D

Seriously, that's a nice score, enjoy it and don't look back. Works for me!

I've done those impulse buys in my life too. Fact is that you'll recover and look back with little regret. Seize the day and enjoy. Keep that knife in the present condition and it will bring more $ one day if you are patient. It is a stunning looker besides being a work horse tank of a knife.

Wow! Beautiful knife, but $700? Ouch. That is the major leagues and I'm just a little leaguer. Enjoy that knife. :D

Yes, Reese Weiland customized it, and thanks for the words of encouragement. I use all my knives, so this will be a user not a safe queen :)

I haven't given Striders much of a look before, but that's an awesome piece. What model is that?

PS - money spent doesn't matter unless it means your wife or girlfriend sending you to the couch for an extended period of time. Otherwise, you'll be fine.

I would say you got a deal at $700. Enjoy that bad boy, it's very nice. If you ever tire of it, I'm sure you could sell it in about 15 minutes if listed in "various" places.

It's a TAD Gear AR. it has the upper swedge that's not standard and the lower grind is a little different too. They made about 50 or 100 of them, can't remember. It was a limited run and they don't make them anymore. They normally come with the G10 scales, but the previous owner had Reese Weiland put on the Ti scales. First thought, after I said WOW, was when I saw them were that they would blend in better with my jeans than the black G10. Fashion sense... geez, I'm getting old :)

In my own life and "misbegotten adventures" I have thrown away 700 dollars-plus on assorted junk and trash. The 700 bucks on this custom or near custom Strider is money well spent.I am jealous(in a good way of course-Enjoy your knife!) ;)

Wow! Thats a cool looking knife. Well even if you did pay too much (and I'm not saying you did) it's a lot better than buying a "bargain" and figuring out later you wasted all your money. I think you did good. Striders dont loose value especially if you have a unique one like that. If I had a knife like that I'd be tickled @#itless.

I think it's way too much money - the blade is not even properly finished, just coated somehow. Strider like Busse is a case of the "Emperors new clothes".
However, if you drive a Bentley and you can recover your money from other Bentley owners in the future then I say that's a great way to stash some of your money. I just hope that one day people don't realize the Emperor isn't wearing any clothes.

Ya know, sometime you win some then you loose some. Money aint that funny if you can't, at times, spend it to something special! You bought yourself a great knife, enjoy it.

regards.

Well, I guess we'd better not ask you your opinion of the Sebenza ... ;)

I think your post is unwarrantedly negative. I don't know what you consider "proper finish", but I will say that Strider knives have a very good, and very durable finish. You may or may not like the tiger striping, but it works well to protect the blade. I have exactly one Strider, an EBS, but it's one of my favorite fixed blades.

I will repeat that I don't think Luopo paid too much for his customized AR. I'd love to have one of those. And if he ever gets tired of it, he will certainly be able to get a good price for it. How can you argue with that?

Well, to each his own :)

About the coating, all Striders come back from heat treating all black. The grey you see if the bead blasting and I have found that the finish on these blades to be really tough. It will wear or scratch and isn't indestructible, but I think they are worth every penny. Not many knife makers stand behind an unconditional lifetime warranty that follows the knife, not the original owner.
