Danged bloody knives...

So I finally got around to blooding my Busse and Swamp Rat blades. I had to cut up three fingers in order to get all the edges done. That AK-47 dang near cost me a digit!!!

Does anyone else here stay with tradition and blood their knives? I know, it would be better to do it on someone else, but it is more work trying to hold my buddies down long enough to poke a hole in them than to just take care of it myself.

At least they have given me good sharp edges to do the cutting with. I am gonna be writing funny for a couple weeks now, though.

I still got two more left to do once I get back to Denver in a couple weeks. A GW (that won't be so bad) and a muddy FBM (oh man, that is gonna take another big cut).

Ok, I'm ignorant. What does it mean to "blood" your knives, and is there some significance to this???

Only knives I "blood" are hunting knives, and it sure ain't my blood!

I only blood mine when I dont show them enough respect & they get my attention real quick, I keep bandaids handy when playing with my FBM & I have been Rat bit once or twice!

Teen angst? Are you mad at your parents?

Well, some would say that blooding a sword was the only way to make it worthy of taking into battle, I guess that goes back to the Huns or some such. Or could be something to do with the Japanese saying that until a sword had blood on it, it was uncertain if it was any good.

In any case, my cause is a little more incidental than that. What I was more jokingly referring to is that I've now cut myself on three different fingers using all the Busse family knives I have, mostly by accident, a couple a case of dumba$$.

Sharp knives and guns, two things that you shouldn't play with when drinking good whiskey.

It sounded better anyways than saying I cut myself, again and I am too old to even know what teen angst means. My youngest might've heard about it, but all I know is it inspired some music trend in the 90s...

My SH-E bit me recently on the first finger, right hand and my SJ-tac sliced my palm a few weeks ago when I was flippin' her while on whiskey.:D
It's only skin and it heals real quick.

i dunno, I think that last onegot something more than skin. Dang thing won't quit bleeding, but it ain't arterial at least.

Then again maybe the whiskey's got the mix thinned too much now.

crap, now i glued my fingers together trying to get the lid off. i better wait till the morning fore i get in real trouble...

My first knife from the Busse shop bit me the first night;)

I decided not to strop it out to a polished edge because I have a 14 year old who loves the FBM.

Geez, Mitch, you'd think a guy who handles knives professionally could manage to not cut himself.

Bleeding/blooding your blade was more common and just as ritualistic as prayer in some bygone cultures. Mostly primitive, but just as valid to some nowadays.
I'm with Tim the Slugman and Guyon on this though. I have had more stitches in my hands than any other part of my body. BTW, Guyon is right on the money. Stings like crazy, but superglue is a cuts best friend in many cases.

As a rule I don't get my blades bloody. Sometimes, when I am really careless they get me bloody. Unless of course I am going into battle against the LORDS OF CHAOS. Then, of course, I rituallly blood my armament. Doesn't everyone?

Well I don't drink at work:D , and there was a giant puppy involved with this cut! There she is in my avatar....

I was thinking about trying to mod my FBM into my everyday Chef knife.

Speaking of "bloodying the knife", this reminds me of a story that my Grandfather told me while he was in China during WWII. This is not an INFI story, but true nontheless.

My Grandfather was in Bhurma during WWII and encountered a group of Khukura soldiers. My Grandfather expressed his interest in the knife (a Khurkri) to the Khurkura soldier that he was carrying on his side. My Grandfather reached for the Khurkuri and quickly unsheathed it. After studying the Khukuri for a while he attemped to give the knife back the to soldier. The Khurkuri soldier told him that the only way to sheath the knife once it was drawn was to have blood with it.

Well since they were not in a combat situation, he exchangeed the Khukuri for a carton of cigarettes. My Grandfather had this knife along with a Jap sword over his fireplace for may years.
