Is there any simplified listing of woods/micarta/bones/etc. that explains, briefly, what the inherent dangers and safety precautions are for each? I'm looking for something that I could keep handy in the shop, without having to refer to 'Richard Scary's Big Book of HazMat'.

Anything?

Micarta is made from formaldehyde and phenol or urine and when you grinding it, it maybe little toxic exhalation and dust. If you don't respire it very long, it will be OK.

I figure anything you inhale is toxic eventually. WEAR A RESPIRATOR!!! Take care! Michael

The first rule of industrial hygene is that all dusts are harmful if inhaled.

None of the common materials used in knifemaking are toxic ie they will not poison you. Many such as crazy glue can cause reactions as individuals become sensitized, this will not occur in all individuals and in not predictable so ventilation is important as it reduces exposure levels.

Use a little common sense and avoid inhaling dusts and you will be fine.
