If a small folder has a dangler clip attached to it is it still traditional ?

On aside note
are knives like the buck 425, buck 283, case mini blackthorn, and case caliber even considered traditional ?

People been attaching a knife to various things with a lanyard or cord for a long time. I think I'd have to see a specific example, but if the dangler isn't integral to the knife, I think it might pass.

I think those knives might fit in the "modern traditionals" thread, but not so much in the rest of Traditional Forum. They got no clip, and are not one-hand opening, but the overall design is modern. Judgment call, and I call 'em out.

Say the dangler is attached through the lanyard hole by a small split ring ?

As far as the knives goes
I think The buck 283 is probably the most modern looking, and the case mini blackhorn is the most traditional ( I really need to get a mini blackhorn )
You're probably right about the bucks, but the case caliber is the tough one because I think it would totally he traditional if it didn't have the textured section.
The mini blackhorn has gotta be traditional though.

I took a picture hanger, the j shape with a triangle at top that you nail thru, bent that so it touched with the split ring of my Vic in it already and hung the j part over the top of my pocket and squished it tight with my fingers and wall-la hanger! It's brass colored so I thought maybe it was traditional, he said with a smile.

How are pocket watches attached to the wearer? Seeing as how pocket watch technology is pretty traditional, perhaps that could be a baseline for what constitutes a traditional attachment method?

I will say I do not like seeing titanium on traditional gear. I LOVE titanium gear and modern knives but I don't like it mixed with traditional patterns. Kind of like how I like fiberglass/plastic handled yard tools, and I love axes, but I do not like fiberglass/plastic handled axes.

I did that before too, but I snipped that little bent over part off first then drilled a hole in it ( I used the biggest one I had )

The one I just made was a spring Steel pen clip ( found a pilot precise v5 laying around which has an easily removed clip )
( so ultralight that it assertive noticeable weight to this little knife which is exactly what I wanted )

Really good idea H&S ! Wouldn't have thought to re-purpose a pen clip that way, but from now on I'll have to save my clips when they come off the pen! I'll have to think about cutting the triangle off, I liked the fact that I didn't have to do much modification to the pic hangers tho'. Hope we don't get shut down or moved with this discussion, I imagine people have been coming up with ideas like this for literally centuries.
Thanks, Neal

Started a thread about it the other day in the general section 👍
( then it dawned on me that my knife might not be traditional anymore so I decided to find out )

Well, I reckon that these would work for scouts,tl-29s, sailing knives and just about anything with a bail. I like the facts that it keeps the knife ready to hand, and spreads the weight out on some as well. I don't have GEC #98 camp or cattle knife, but I'm pretty sure this would be the way I'd carry one.
Thanks, Neal

I use hangers a lot to keep a knife upright in the side of my back pocket. That way I don't sit on it and it's easy access.

What is the judgement call based upon?

Having owned and used knives for almost 6 decades.
Those handles have a modern shape to them.

I don't see a problem with a dangler like that.

It works good! This Peanut spends a lot of time on a watch chain, either by itself, or on a second double albert chain with one of my pocket watches. Same thing as a dangler IMO, just a bit longer.

Bob Terzuola uses a clip with a small chain for some of his knives. He's had it on one production knife, the Benchmade Park Avenue which had a small wire clip and 2 1/2" chain both in sterling silver. IIRC, per the ad copy, a clip/chain was Bob's preferred method of carry for swiss army knives when he was young.

I use these with a slip ring on my SAKs and with a bail on my larger slippys.
