well the first thing "I" would do, is keep the sheath to store the knife in as well as use it as the basis for a very fun and easy leather project. IMHO, while they are good for protecting the blade and a MUCH better fit than what came with the orginal R-6's, the dangler sheathes leave a little to be desired in terms of safety. Almost all of my JKM's have killed their stock sheath. I think it has do with the weight of these blades pressing down on a weldless sheath so it cuts its way through in very short order. YMMV.
For less that 15 bucks you can pic up all the materials you need to make a nice fold over dangler or belt loop style sheath with a good thick lining to keep the blade from cutting through. I could give you a very ugly and quick and dirty step by step, Orrrrr, you might ask Andy or Leatherface really sweet-like to give you a much better how-to overview. That's just what I'd do
I think you're going to love that R-6. IMHO, it takes all the great qualities of the SARGE/KPH design (pointy western blade in a useful size) and pairs it with the bombproof construction of the JKM. I picked one a few weeks ago and after making a new sheath and honing the edge, it's been a great companion knife. Very fun little knife
