Gentlemen,
I MAY in the future be selling a 12-yr old Last of The Mohicans era Daniel Winkler belt knife -7" file steel blade 12" o/a, maple carved and elk skin wrapped handle made for me in 1997 including detailed paperwork signed by Daniel. The thing is I don't have a clear idea regarding current market value for a 'vintage' full size Daniel Winkler belt knife and am reluctant to list at eBay or anywhere before at least attempting to gather a little market value intel.
Your thoughts ?

No need to be embarrased - Daniel's a good guy and I'm sure he'd be happy to help. Knowing the current price for a comparable piece would be a good starting point.

I'd call him on the phone if I were in your boat.

Agreed 150% here. Daniel will be more than happy to help you figure things out.

run a search and you'll find a hand full of Winklers currently available on dealer sites. This will also help you set a reasonable price.

Daniel would be the person to ask for sure.I have a similar piece that Daniel and Karen dated to be from somewhere around '95. Mine is a little smaller and has a rawhide wrapped bone handle. This piece was bought on the secondary market and gifted to me by a friend at Blade this year, and was purchased for 800.00. My guess is yours could possibly bring slightly more.Again, this is just a guess.

Jon,

Check your private messages. I sent you some information that might be useful.

Most of the knives you see on dealer sites have been show purchases. Show sales these days are somewhat different than in the past and the more affordable hunters are still attracting both new and existing customers. I still make a lot of larger knives and Tomahawks but for now they are mostly for filling orders. The Orvis link you provided was one of last year’s editions. This year we are doing a Damascus Friction Folder with buffalo horn and a straight edge Hunter with elk antler.

Hmmm.... I don't seem to be able receive PM's, no PM link under my handle nor any visible way to access or view PM's ...

Edit: Ahhhhh, looks like I need to ' upgrade ny forum experience' in order to receive PM's...

I haven't seen many of Karen's sheaths with that degree of beading.
Both belt knife and sheath are nice and appear to be in very good condition.

You should do well on a sale considering your purchasing it 12 years ago.
