Not sure where to put this.
Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of Daniel Winkler knives?

I have a belt knife and a hatchet; the ooze both quality and character and as soon as you get one in hand the visceral experience makes them feel under priced.

Daniel Winkler does post on here from time to time but he doesn't have a specific sub forum.

I've owned a couple of the Winkler II's. Should have never sold off the Field knife. I like his jimping on the spine, best I've ever felt. His sheaths are the best sheaths for a prod. fixed blade I've carried. Very comfortable, comforting and well made. I don't think his design is anything new in his prod. line of knives and no secret to heat treating etc. The name sells in this case I think.

Now all that being said I haven't yet found a fixed blade like my SK5 Recon Scout. Don't know exactly what it is about that knife but frankly may be the best f.b. I've owned. I've owned other Recon Scouts but for some reason they just didn't stack up to this one. Same goes for the TM, although my stag handled one is pretty decent. Can't go wrong with the Winkler line though, just well thought out and wish I still had the Field knife, with the 5.75" blade. Carried well and performed well, in 52100. keepem sharp

Love the Belt Knife I have and I'm very tempted to try the Operator.

I did a few part review on the belt knife you could search for and see some pics and thoughts.

He's a stand up man too.

I have his T.A.D edition belt knife in 3v... I bought a second T.A.D edition belt knife to keep as a back up because I loved the knife so much. Daniel makes an amazing quality and well thought out knife. I regret selling my backup belt knife.. Been on the look out for another back up ever since.

And having dealt with Dan when I had a problem he is a straight shooter and down to earth guy to deal with who stands behind his product 100%.

Daniel makes really good knives. The part that impresses me the most about Daniel is how he acts after the sale. He's answered many questions via email for me.

I've picked his brain a little bit and he's very quick to respond to any emails . Even emails me to check on my gear and ask me how it's working out for my needs.

My belt knife was a little too thick behind the edge for my tasks. I email Daniel and ask him how much toughness my knife would lose and if he still would cover my knife if I did a slight reprofile. His reply was what degrees his personal knives were ,as well as the sharpener he uses. I know Daniel will take care of you if you buy his gear. I'm not saying get it and purposely try to destroy it. I'm saying If you do get one Daniel has your back .

The belt knife for me is about the perfect fixed blade. The sheath is amazing and the ergos are like it was built for my hand. They are a bit pricey ,like insaid though your getting a knife from a mastersmith, that will answer an email personally from you about his knives within 24 hours in my expierence.

I recently picked up one of his Belt Knives. Feels great in the hand and the sheath is a work of art. The edge was a little fat for my taste, but when I contacted Daniel Winkler he offered to thin it out and reprofile free of charge. Top notch tool made by a master craftsman who obviously cares a lot about his knives and the people who use them. Mr Winkler personally answered all of my emails within 24 hours. I honestly can't say enough good things about Daniel Winkler and Winkler Knives.

There is something very special about certain Cold Steel models of certain decades.

I too have an expensive and excellent Busse but from time to time I'm always lured to use a Carbon V SRK. I also dont know what it has, being as plain and mediocre looking as it is, but I LOVE that knife. I prefer the SRK to the more modern Fällknivens.

How pointy is the belt knife? Pretty much the only thing that's stopping me from purchasing one is how much belly and how little tip it seems to have.

I'd love a Spike but with a rounded butt.

How tough are Winkler knives? Do they stand up well to "special" usage?

The tip definitely has a lot of belly to it, which is great for cutting. As far as pointy-ness goes, it's no dagger or tanto, but in a pinch I have no doubt I could stab it into pretty much anything short of rock or plate steel if I had to. I know Winkler II knives are supposed to be "tactical" blades, but in hand, mine gives me a real "woodsman" feel that I love.

I've owned almost every piece of the Winkler 11 line Daniel has made and now I'm fixed on the Utility knife. Absolutely the best blade for my purposes. He's a good man too which makes me want to buy more from him.

you won't regret it... and if you do, someone else will be glad to take it off you for pretty near what you paid for it so you're not out anything. Not only that, everytime someone that knows anything about knives sees it on you, it won't take long for the admiration to reinforce your confidence. I've got one of his tomahawks, and i'd say it's one of my best pieces i have ever bought as far as satisfaction goes.

There was a thread where a guy got a knife from Winkler that wasn't hardened. It crumpled when cutting a nail and some other stuff.

Winkler came to the thread. I believe he said "WOW, WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP! I'll send a replacement ASAP."

No further questions, no excuses. He fucked up, he made it right without a big ordeal. I thought that was pretty good, especially after seeing so many people blatantly ignored and almost abused by so many other makers.
