Anyone own one of these hatchet/hawk sized axes? If so may I have your opinions and impressions on the Danish/Swedish firemans ax as a spike warhawk substitute and their utilitarian abilities in the field. Also anyone who has seen these at the sportsmans guide or other mil surplus stores that may have input please feel free to give your opinion. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Ok. If nobody owns one I guess I will be the first on one to try one of these out and will post a review.
They have almost the same appearance as a spiked warhawk. I am inclined to think that they are made of good steel being that they are German Mfg. Again if anyone has had any hands on experince with these please post an honest opinion about them.

Hi - can you post a link to where a person could buy one of these, so we can have a look at this axe?

I don't have one of these yet. I was thinking about getting one but wanted to see if they are worth the money. I have seen them for sale at the sportsmans guide for 22.00 or so. They are German so I figured that the steel was decent. They have the appearance of a spike tomahawk and have steel handle guards that come down from the blade about 5 inches. I wondered if they were removable. Not truly a classic American style hawk but might do for a person on a tight budget.
Great forum here. Iv'e been lurking for a while and reading up on all the posts.

Thanks, Mark! About $30.00 shipped. I was just about to pull the trigger and buy one, but I couldn't think of why I'd need a spike.

If anyone can give me a use for the spike, maybe I will get one. Thanks.

Probably demolition, prying locks, and other forceful ways of getting into secured unattended burning buildings :)

I have one on order and will post my opinion/impression of this tool after I have had time to test it out.

OK. I recieved the fireaxe. I first removed the head from the handle then made my own from Osage orange. I then blued the head and hardware and hafted it. I chopped down five 6 inch sweet gums and it remained just as sharp as it was after I sharpened it. A winner if you asked me. I have photos but don't know how to download them. If someone will email me at ashtabula69@hotmail.com I will send them to you and you can post them here.
This is a good spiked tomahawk type axe for the money. Good German steel.
