Hi DV , in one of your posts you said, law forbids you from owning a sebenza? Why is this?

I believe that it was the thumb stud that made it illegal in his country. I think they have a law that no knife can be "opened with one hand" making thumb studs and possibly thumb holes like on spyderco's illegal there...

You are absolutely right; one-handers are illegal because they can be open using only one hand. It includes both stud and hole. I principle even a small Sebenza without the stud is illegal because it’s over 7 cm (2.75”) long. You may not carry a knife in public unless it’s at folder and less than 2.75”. And new legislation is one the way. If the lawmakers get their way also folders with locking blades will be illegal.

Thanks Carl!

Damn the law is Stupid!
:grumpy:  :o

Can you fight the law and upcoming changes? Here we have the AKTI which can help with legislation that affects knives and tools. A letter writing campaign maybe? I know I would be very frustrated. I think lives can be saved with one-handed openers. Good luck.

Here is another thread initially posted on the Chris Reeve Knives forum and, while it does refer to Sebenzas, the issue revolves around all one hand opening knives and I think it is interesting for everyone!

Hope those lame laws don`t pops over the ocean. The knife laws in Norway are still somewhat liberal.

The really wild thing about these STUPID laws is the price you pay for brakeing them. If your stopped on the street with a onehand opening folder (blade could be fx. 2" long) you get to pay 1000U$ and they confiscate you folder. Second time you´ll face charges on top of the 1000U$.... However you can get a permid for collecting real weapons like Swords, bajonets, spears etc, but no onehand folders!! Go figure!??
