Hey Dan,
Any news on the Dankura ?
Im not sure what the cantina liked, but its gone from 6 inches to 7 inches owing to my fat fingers needing a longer grip.
I was thinking this week would be its actual birthday, so any news or pics would be great, but of course, no rush!

I keep bugging him about it too, maybe if we get really annoying he will finish it just to shut us up!

Naw...he's a young knifemaker...he *likes* the sound of collectors wailing!

;) :p :D

.

sheesh.......

:D  :p

Ok, here's your update:

I have been laid up sick since the Blade Show. I still have a nasty cold today, but did manage to make it out to Tom Upton's shop to weld up some cable damascus billets.

The main point of going was to fix my fullering tools, which should speed another lingering project.

Big thanks to Tom for all the help/guidance.

The billets are all different sizes because each is a different pattern. The rightmost/topmost will be a wild pattern when it's done. The others are variations on the fold/twist idea.

Next step = forge to shape.

But, like I said, I probably won't make any progress on this one until I finish up a few other projects first.

As Bill used to say "Thanks for the bug."

Unless I miss my guess, you are forging your own Damasscus.
No hurry, no worry. Wear something to protect your hair from
the sparks (as if you didn't know).

Ok....I'm still laid up a bit, so no real shop work today. But I did manage a few moments for some doodles.

After this - let's take any questions/comments offline - don't want to run rampant here on the H.I. forum - stick to khuks, can't go wrong.

Here's the finalized design:

And with dimensions:

Print this image, take it to a photocopier and reduce it until the dimensions are 100%. Cut it out of a piece of cardboard (carefully) to get the idea.

And here are some pics with me holding a wood model I made in my hand - in both forward and reverse grips.

Sorry for the blue tape....:o .....The blade was too short the first time around. Had to redesign it. The drawings above (previous post) were adjusted based on this wood model. Feels great in my hand, with a little "room to wiggle" for larger hands. This size will get the job done and keep the knife small and light enough for easy carry. (I made this based on your hand measurements, DIJ)

Again, just wanted to note that I'm posting these here because the request was made in the forum. Any interested parties should contact me personally from here on out.

Very nice pix, nifty design. Thanks for sharing.

I bet if you made it out of steel it would hold an edge better.

Noah ;)

took it over to my father-in-law whose hands are much larger/wider than mine. It almost fits. Just needs a hair more space. So, I'm going to add about 1/8" to each end of the handle and give it a shot.

I'd suggest a finer grind...that one looks a bit toothy for my tastes...;):D
