Is there a particular style from where this design was derived? Looks like a no-spin design like those Japanese lateral shakens.

Looks based on the old Knifecrafters post WWII - 1950s design, which was usually shown thrown by the blade, but sometimes by the handle -

These are sometimes shown in old knife books as an OSS/SOE "frisk" knife, but most of the dated paper work on them is post WWII. They were also popular thin boot knives 60s-early 80s.
