I am practically speechless. I am very very sad. :( I didn't even even like him. I'm just very sad about this. Smoke and prayers, Danny boy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God will give you a nice ride in heaven, baby. :(
I used to root against him, much like Dale. I feel like throwing up.

To fill people in, he got in a very nasty Indy Car wreck. The guy was a champion of the highest caliber. 33 years old. :(

He was a very gracious winner at Indy and a valuable open wheel racer. He will be missed.

The guy was unreal. I can't really draw comparisons but Tony Stewart comes to mind. It is times like this that I hate cars. I'm just sick.

This is so sad, I was a big fan of Dan Wheldon; he was a great driver (and a great person). I was watching tv and ran into the pre-race (excited since I didn't know it was on today); totally got focused on football and forgot about the race. I just found out an hour or so ago; was pretty crushed. :(

The only thing I can think of that puts a little positive light on this tragedy is at least he died while doing his job, something he loved (not many people die that way). I feel for his family, and just hope that they can get through this.

RIP

I still am totally stunned about Dan's death. I have loved auto racing my entire life. The Indy 500 was almost like Christmas Day when I was a kid. I used to make fun of Nascar guys until about 14 or so years ago when a buddy got me into stock car racing. It is never easy to understand it when a 33 year old guy with a wife and two young children (something like 2 years and six months old) dies such a horrific death. He did die doing what he loved to do. I'm a little bummed that they didn't finish the race because I think Dan would have wanted them to do that but I guess the drivers were just so shaken to their cores that racing would have simply been impossible. Rest in peace, Dan. :(
