Dan's Whetstone Opinion?

As of late I've really enjoyed sharpening with pocket stones. I would love a superfine spyderco ceramic in a pocket stone but none are available. Dan's whetstones has an ultra fine model pocket stone and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with his stones?
I wonder how his ultra fine grit rating would compare to the spyderco ceramic stone?

If you have any modern steels- S30V, Elmax, or above, get a spyderco double stuff over an arkansas stone. They are old tech made for old tech- high carbon steel knives- 1095 and the like. The fine of the doublestuff can be lapped to give a finer finish as well. Or a DMT Diafold, in coarse and fine, and sharpen anything quickly.

I totally agree with that.
I will say I really like my Dan's very large Translucent Hard Arkansas stone. The quality is first rate; he/they do a tremendously good job.

Thirdly I'm not above cutting a larger stone if I want a smaller stone that isn't available. I would post photos but PhotoPhlunket has said no more fun. I cut down my Norton Water stones but have not done that to a Shapton. You could get a tile cutter person to do it or read and learn how on some brick layer's YouTube. Basically score it and break it.

Fourthly some say you can use a Hard Ark on some of the high alloy steels and that the Hard Ark. material is hard enough you just need to condition the surface first with a diamond plate to get some grooves on the surface.

Again check out YouTubes for that. Key word "Stamp".

Well I didn't find the exact one I was thinking of but this is similar.
Dif is he is talking softer ark and using silicon carbide grit to condition the stone surface. There are others though. If you want to get to the meat of the vid fast forward to the last two thirds.

I have both the medium and fine spyderco pocket stones and really like them. More than anything just wondering if dans ultra fine 4" pocket stone would be the equivalent of the spyderco ultra fine stone for polishing.
