Dan's WSK

Yeah, I think some folks here might be interested. :D

Damn! That is really nice. I specifically asked Dan about getting one of these a couple of months ago, and he was nice enough to email me when it was ready, but just didn't have the werewithal to do so right now. Definitely on my list.

Does it come with a sheath? I imagine that would be a tough one to make one for, but it would be cool if it did. And did you try out the sawback at all? I know most sawbacks have strictly limited functiuonality, but just curious if you did any work with it. I really like that handle very much. I am fortunate to have two of Dan's creations, and can attest to how sharp he can get a blade.

Thanks for sharing.

it's sweet :> no buyer's remorse at all. early production handmade custom WSK? oh, you can best your patootie i'm holding onto this :)

yeah, it came with a sheath - he had a bundle on his for-sale with a moldex kydex sheath and a tec-lok with enough mounting options that it's a wonder (one could go left, right, angled, scout carry (maybe two locks for that?); at some point i'll think about a leather sheath for it, but for now i'm good. the handle is almost an oval-octangonal super comfy :)

strictly speaking, it's "not a saw", it's for notching :) yes, i did use it. works really well to initiate slots and things if the EDGE of the thing is used (45 degree angle), then either the full-face, or just starting with the full-face to continue the notch. i tried a couple ways of making notches, and depending on the wood, sometimes cutting one with the draw-knife portion worked, but usually the edging technique was the win for initial precision and/or depth i desired, and a quick touchup after. i imagine if i was going to suddenly make 50 trap sets, i'd rather just speed notch them rather than carve them all out ;)

it's a sweet sweet thing :)
