Hello Everyone,
I still make things. It just takes me a long time now. I also spend time restoring antiques, which cuts into the making of new stuff, but makes me better at the new stuff.
This is 300 layers of sanmei with 15N20 and 80CrV2 and an 80CrV2 core. 29.5" blade. It weighs, all fitted, in the 800 gram range. Bubinga, amber dewaxed shellac, and brass.
The engraving is stylized to use Qing motifs. It was really hard for me to not do any sort of background treatment, but this stylized approach to bats and clouds is a traditional motif seen on Chinese swords from the Ming onward (1300's). So, the customer wanted that, and not more modern looking engraving.
