I told myself I was going to stop making these, but the weird shape really appeals to me for some reason. ;) This one is made out of 1095 and is 3/16 thick, 11 inches overall with a 5 1/2-inch cutting edge. I was going to take a rest over the holidays, but I couldn't help myself. I ended up finish-sanding it monday while watching TV so that doesn't "technically" count. :D

Sorry for all the pics, but I just got a new camera last night and got some serious trigger finger going right now (the dog is pissed off with me right now :D ). They still aren't the best, but the lightbox is still in the attic (excuses, excuses.)

Anyway - any thoughts on the ugly little beast would be much appreciated.

Michael, There's no ugly in this one to my eye. I like it. A LOT!! :D I could see that animal being handy for kitchen chores like veggie cutting, salami slicing, salad making, onion dicing, butterflying chops, etc etc.

The only concerns I have are the thickness of the stock (I like 1/16" thick kitchen knives) and the spots where the hamon dips down closer to the edge. My preference is for the hamon to be about one-third to one-half way up the blade from the edge. YMMV. Nonetheless, I find that hamon's undulations and variations visually captivating.

Is the underwrap same' skin? Do you make these with other handle styles/materials like micarta or stabilized wood?

Again, very nice job!!

I agree with Rokjok, it's lovely.

It looks like a reduced size camp knife to me, which is cool. I also think the exposed pommel/tang is a nice touch.

Thanks fellows -- :)

I haven't made one of these styles with slabs, but I can. ;)

You're not short on creativity, are you ? I really like how this one turned out and your hamons are getting even better. Do I see evidence of some "interrupted depth quenching" there for some extra lines ?
Ditto what others have said. I think this would make a great kitchen knife as well. Jason.

That is correct. :) It didn't turn out quite like I wanted, but you can see some "ghost lines" running from the spine if you look close.

i don't know about it being ugly, i think it is a great knife. i would want to have a knife like that.
