Ok I took the advice I was given about creating the burr and I made a lot of headway but I notice that the first few passes removed quite a bit of metal. Then the next few before the burr showed up a lot less. Does this jive with anyone else's experience or am I just not noticing it after the initial removal of metal. I have gotten better but I can't help but feel that I am still missing something.
 
You more then likely changed the angle on the edge. This requires you to remove more of the material before obtaining a burr. Each additional pass after obtaining the new angle removed some of the burr.
