Its been a while since I posted any new images, so I thought I would share a new composition on set I have had in my collection for just over a year.

The set originated as a single JS piece (Carbon) which I bought off a fellow collector. Unknown to me at the time of pulling the trigger, the simple, almost old school bowie had a little secret ..... engraved into the underside of the guard was a fantastic "grotesque" from whose mouth the blade pours out amongst extended fangs.

After taking delivery what struck me was overall quality of Tom Ferry's work, combined with the balance and simple elegance of the piece, juxtaposed against the fiendish engraving on the guard. I was so impressed I commissioned a second piece, same design and dimensions, but this time with a damascus blade and walnut handle ..... a dark twin if you would!:D

Below is an image of the set .... hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Stephen - what an excellent concept - beautifully realized by Tom. This is a terrific take on the "matched set" concept. Beautiful photo, too. I'm a big fan of Tom's work and hope to add a piece of his to my collection some time soon.

Nice pieces. Tom was a very good maker when I met him for the first time 7 or 8 years ago, and he has been improving tremendously year after year. He's also a nice guy.

That's a very cool set, and a great idea.

Congrats to you and Tom Ferry.

Tom had told me about these knives but I had not seen them. So thank you for posting such nice pic's.

Stephen, great knives and very nice photo. You haven't lost your touch:thumbup:

If I compare both engravings it seems that Tom not only improved as a maker but also as an engraver:cool::thumbup:

Great idea that Tom pulled off with flying colors. He even bleached the fangs on #2. Really a great set of outstanding work!

Thoroughly enjoyable image.
Two fantastic pieces.
Thanks for sharing, Stephen.

The Light twin is Curly Maple? :)

Great idea and great execution - really nice pair of knives. The 'grotesque' engraving on the guards is clever & fun - I like it. Reminds me of a sculpted door I saw in Rome a few years ago.

Joss is exactly right about Tom's improvement year on year. I have three pieces from him - between each one I could see an improvement in both his technical and design skills. And the first one was really, really nice to begin with.
