This one is called the "Dark Sith Lord", just because it has black and red! But it does cut like it was a light saber! I have always wanted to try working with D2, and with the new Paragon kiln, that time came a few weeks ago! This started as a billet of 0.084" D2 from Alpha Knife Supply. I wanted to use Bohler K100, but this generic D2 was a little thinner, which I like. The heat treatment included a 1600°F 20 minute pre-quench in oil for grain refinment, 1900°F 20 minute austenitize/quench in oil, sub zero (-100°F) bath for a couple hours, and 3x 2hour tempers at 350°F for a final ~63HRC. Sharpened 14° per side on DMT diamond plates to 1200 mesh. I think I like the shorter blades (3" compared to 4") for field dressing, and not quite as tall of a blade, either. Thanks for looking! I'll have to make some more of these!
