Darkened stonewash on stainless steel?

How do you achieve a a darkened stonewash and will it work on stainless steels particulary in cpm154?
 
You can do it with ferric chloride, which is sold for copper circuit board etching. And yes, it works on CPM154. Here's a picture of my hunter by Larry Page, in CPM154 after the ferric chloride treatment:
