Darkening titanium

FeCl does not even touch Ti (i use it hot now and then to etch broken HSS taps out of frame locks)

What shape is the titanimum in and what is it’s use. I have used heat to make titanimum dark/black. Titanimum LOVES oxygen and if it’s heated to forge temp and held at time it will build up a very thick oxide layer. This oxide is very thick and VERY hard. I experimented with this process years ago when I wan manufacturing firearm supressers. I ended up ditching the process as getting consistency in color. After the heating you use oil and rub it down while is hot. But this takes practis as you can get to thick of an oxide layer which can affect strength.

It's a customers knife. The textured handle has some bite to it. The slab is blackened in some fashion. To smooth the bite area it will take away the blackening.
