Hey everyone, I've been playing around with my waki; cutting boxes and stuff. Its a real great user. I can't wait until the weather gets warmer so I can take it out camping.
I've been reading some of the posts and some of the micarta scales seem darker. I've used baby oil on mine (black micarta) and it darkens it temporarily. Once it dries it returns to its original green colour. Anyway of darkening my black micarta handles permenantly?

Use it!

Don't know how it works but I have read where some guys have used shoe polish in the past. Maybe post this on the busse forum. Some of the old schoolers over here may know.

soak the handle in a boiling 20/80% solution of neatfoots oil and beeswax for a few minutes and then wipe the excess off before it dries, this not only permenently darkens it but gives it an awesome grip.

:eek:What with wanting to color scales in a hurry?

Use the darn things and they will 'age' nicely on their own.

BTW this is another horse beating thread:thumbdn:

Thanks for the updates and your experiences! I've also noticed that the spine and the edges of the handle are darker in colour as those areas gripped more often than the flats of the handles. I just find the darker micarta more rich and refined look.

Since this has been discussed before, do any of you guys have the link?
