I'd mentioned in another thread that I'd just picked up a Rob Criswell Tanto with a 7 inch blade that had ignited a curiousity about Tanto blades. I'd thought about a folder, and thought I'd stop at the local knife shop just fer fun an' look at a couple. Main two I had in mind was a Sydie Lum if I was feelin' rich, or maybe a CRKT M-16, just a cheap, knock around thing to play with, save a few bucks...

So, I go in there, an' look at the M-16's and the Lum...As long as the M-16's been around and as much as they'd been discussed, I'd never troubled myself to seriously look at one...big mistake on my behalf!!

I wound up happily parting with a few bucks to pick up an M-16 LE from the 1* series. And surprisingly, I didn't "settle" for anything, this knife stands on it's own merit! heckuva great design, and it's very well assembled!

The Carson Flipper makes it incredibly fast opening for a tip down knife. It's smooth, tight, good looking, and well finished. I especially love the blade profile. Thick enough for plenty of horsing around, but thin enough to cut quite efficiently. It's obviously made as one heckuva workhorse knife. the clip is very tight, it rides high enough to get a decent grip on it, even with gloves. The thumb studs are plenty thick, and the LAWKS is just plain cool! I also think the patch that it came with is kinda cute..:D Actually, I may try an' get a few more of the upgraded M-16's, just for fun. \

It's also very nicely balanced, and really easy (and secure) to change from forward to reverse grips.

Overall it's nice to see a real workhorse of a knife that's within the budget of and so highly available to the majority of FF,LEO an' Military folks.

The one complaint I have is that on the partially serrated blade they chisel ground the remaining 70% of the edge after the serrations..

As a side mention, whaddya' think of the "Special Forces" ones? I'm kinda not real impressed with the design of them, myself. Although the guards are kinda cool for "horsin' around" with it, they seem a bit clumsy, and I don't like that they pretty much limit you in forward grips. Dealer I bought from last night said he had so darn little interest in them, he'd sell them to me at cost.

I also found it odd that the LE one came with the LAWKS on it, and the Military one doesn't. Wierd, eh?

I know this is old, old news to about 97% of y'all, but I just couldn't help but rave. I are a happy, happy man!:D

Congrats on the new knife. I have a limited edition AR15.com M-16 in OD green, that I'm very happy with.

RWS, try one of the Big Dogs. This is the one in titanium. Great value for a ti handled knife.

As soon as the old M16s, non Lawks, are sold out CRKT will start selling new models with the Lawks.

Yup.., they are a nice knife for Tanto fans.., and tough to beat for the buck! I gave 'em to guys I work with last year for X-Mas.., and they are all still "In Service"...

Runs With Scissors,

If you are on a "tanto kick", don't forget the Cold Steel Tantos, such as the Voyager, Gunsite, and fixed-blade Tantos. Although they are of the "American tanto" versions, they are all pretty good knives.

congrats on your enlightenment rws. i bought a m16-04-z early this year and have been very pleased with it. it to is a tanto blade, and athough it is aus6 steel i have had no problems with it.i use this knive for daily carry. crkt is the BEST bang for the buck. :D
