Have a package waiting for me when I get home thanks to Larry at KNIFEART(one of the good guys!!!) containing an "EXTREME APOGEE" - Nbr. 7 - thanks Larry - the article in KNIVES ILLUSTRATED came out great - the pictures(especially since many were of my new tool) were super. I think you may get a little business from that(hope so!). I've wanted one of Darrel's wonderful blades for a good while & now it has come to pass.

I know some of you have acquired Apogees(Jackyl - you finally made it to the custom side - sounds like you're enjoying yourself!) and I was interested in your reactions/feelings on the knife. I have only seen pictures & I can't wait till I have it in my hands & open it the first time. Only 1 1/4 hrs. to go!

When I opened the box and unzipped the case what I removed blew me away - the pictures don't do the "EXTREME" justice - the effect that Darrel has achieved with the handle is amazing. You think at first sight that there are anodized Ti scales on a bead-blast frame - WRONG! - the handle is integral but the effect is of two pieces. The workmanship is impeccable, it handles like a dream and is scary sharp. The thumb studs are some of the best I've come across and I love the understated elegance - beautiful & it just begs to be used. The one question I had was what coating is used on the blade? I like it but I have not seen any other like it. This knife ROCKS!!! Darrel, this knife is as good as it gets - Thank You!

Jackyl - How do you like your Apogee?
 
Well, I WILL love it! Everything was ideal but the pocket clip. It was soooo tight, I couldn't clip it in my pocket. I removed it and loosened it up, but then it stared to eat the pants right off of me.

After 15 "in / outs", my entire pocket inside had been eaten alive! So, I panicked, and Darrel came to my rescue. He said that he'd put the new scotch brite finish on and the clip upgrade. On top of all that, I'm having him do the gold nugget work too!!!

I can't wait! If everything goes well with the clip / jeans relationship, this will be the ULTIMATE daily carry for me. Now if only I can get my hands on Chad's new Elishewitz!!! -AR
