I have an interest in getting a Darrel Ralph Combat Elite RRF. I see that sevreal members have tried, used or own this knife. Should I get the manual or the assisted version. Need help with the comparisons.

I guess it depends on what you like. The only difference between the two is one has a spring to help open the knife, the other doesn't. It is a rock solid folder no matter which way you go. The current run has some tweaks to it that really take it up another notch in quality.

Personally, I am not a huge fan of assisted openers or autos, so I would opt for the manual and save some money. That is just me. You will be happy with either.

I have tried the CRK m16 manual with a flipper and assisted Kershaws. I was just trying to find out if one was better than the other or if there were any preferences. Does the non assisted open as easy as the assisted? thank you

I've had both and would really prefer the non-assist. The blade is fairly light as is and it is not a hard knife to open one handed.

non assisted version does not open as easily, as the assisted. For a non assited flipper, it opens fairly easy. You are dealing with a bit of physics here. Mass of the blade along with the location of the flipper in relation to the pivot. That being said, I still prefer the non assisted.

Yes and no. The CRKT and the Kershaw are two very different designs, while the RRF is a the exact same knife.

I converted a Kershaw Bump from assisted to manual. It worked out very well. The blade didn't open as easily as with the sping. It required a small flick of the wrist. However, the RRF manual opens easier. It still requires a very slight wrist movement to open all of the way. But it is a very subtle movement and it is almost subconcious.

It is very easy to open right from the start. I'm sure it will get even slicker. I don't know how, because it's already slick and easy to open. But the non assisted flipper works fine.

I tried the assisted. It's fast, but has more mechanicals and is more prone to spring and mechanical failure than a simpler version.
