I handled a Darrel Ralph Gunhammer EDC-X in a store this past weekend and was quite impressed with the overal feel, operation and quality. Actually, I was very impressed. For a larg'ish stainless steel knife it sure felt light and nimble in the hand. Lighter than I would have expected. And it has to have the smoothest opening operation of any knife that I have handled to date. Its offered in both manual and, assisted opening versions but, even with the manual version it only takes an easy flick on the trigger and the blade just effortlessly flips open.

I would be interested in hearing any comments on this knife. I know it's expensive but, it appears the quality and craftsmanship are commensurate with it's cost.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the handles are Ti. I handled an assisted opening Radian model, and it was definitely interesting. I'd be more inclined to get the IKBS model, myself, but it is a definitely well-made blade. The handle is very ergonomic, and the action is just very smooth. Honestly, for the money, I'd rather have an RJ Martin Devastator (which is cheaper), but I'm a bit biased that way.

I'd sum up my conclusions about the Gunhammer this way: Its nice, and very well done. I'm not sure its $500+ good (and it isn't to me personally), but its definitely a fine piece of craftsmanship. YMMV.

I LOVE DDR's knives!! I have 2 on ordered a DDR GH-MT and an AXD-NG. Someday, I hope to get these 2 knives paid off! I REALLY want them!!

it started out at $525 for the manual one, but i think its now $575 & the assisted one is $675.its definitly ti handles, s30 blade.darrel ralph makes incredible knives, work is first rate,if you do buy one, your getting perfection in fit, finish, workmanship.i just dont know if i could spend close to 600 for a knife.......

Well, the dealer told me the handles were SS and, with the metal being fairly shiny I did not question it. However, thinking how light in weight this knife was, I don't know how it could be SS. Anyway, I just called the number on Darrel Ralph's website and he answered the phone. The handle is Ti. So you people are correct. I have to say, that is a very nice finish on Ti though. It doesn't take long to realize that this is not just another rather well made production knife. It's a bit more than that.

TKC, that GH-MT looks very good too. Awesome looking blade.

And Spyderjon, my dealer also had a few RJs in stock. I did not handle one of these but, perhaps I should. After being so enamored wth the DR Gunhammer, I could not focus on other knives. I will have to handle the RJ on my next visit.

I still can't get over how smooth the action was in that Gunhammer.

My friend, I highly suggest you give RJ's work a twirl. His stuff is made to WORK, and he's about as finicky about F&F as one can get. He's also knows DDR pretty well. The action is just VERY refined, and close to the IKBS action with his thrust washers. Very smooth- and you couldn't ask for a friendlier guy.
