I just recieved one of these in a trade with a fellow forumite. I was wondering if these are going to be worth more than they were originally sold for since they are now discontinued? Anyone else out there have any opinions on the Apogee? Do you think it is built for hard work? It seems very stout. Mine has CF scales over thick Ti liners with nuggeting showing through, and a CPM420V blade. This one had a tiny bit of up and down blade play, but I loosened the blade stop torx screw and rotated the blade stop half way, and now the blade play is gone. It was easier than sending the knife back for adjustment. :D

I have two, one with rainbow anodized, cross hatched Ti scales, and one with carbon fiber scales, and very thick SS liners.

Darrel's Apogee is probably one of my favorite customs, not due to the size, the smoothness, discreetness of carry, no, it's for the shape of the handle.

Mine are of the large variety, and the handle simply goes unfelt in one's palm. There are no high points, annoying curves, etc. It's like holding onto a well used bar of soap, or a worn river stone. I love these handles!! The traction grooves on top of the handle and blade are very smooth, almost dimpled. I love the their effectiveness, and smoothness. Very well done.

I was deeply saddened when I heard word of their being discontinued. So, I made sure I had two incase one was lost of damaged beyond repair. I love them, or did I already mention that?

Didn't Darrel used to refer to the Apogee as a "sleeper" design on his old site? It certainly has been for me. They didn't do much for me at first but the more I looked at them and the more I used them the design just kept growing on me. More than any other knife I've had they hide their size well and appear smaller than they really are -- in carry, use, and in front of people.

I was taken by surprise when they were discontinued and had just sold one. I snatched up a few since. I think there was enough of them made that you won't see a big pop in price immediately, but I do think people are starting to hold onto them. Just my .02

Great knife, enjoy it.

I've got two small Apogees, one manual and one with the Illusion release And one large with the Illusion release I carry the two small ones. They are right up there on my favorites list for sure!
Here is a quick photo

Lanny,

The titanium handled Apogee is about as tough as I have seen.. The 420V blade speaks for itself. I am sure that considering the materials utilized on the CF Apogee, you have no problem. Just make sure to keep touching up the blade. If you are really going to use the 420V hard, you may want to consider getting a Diamond stone just in case it gets dull.

Just my .02..

;)
