I picked this one up from Darrel at the Shot Show. This is a very impressive knife.

These are Darrel's words about the knife:

MAD MAX is a double guard flipper knife. The blade is 5.5 inches long and comes in either a semi spear point or bowie style blade. The frame is titanium. The frame comes with two finishes. Ceramic peen, or anodized.

The lock is very strong on this knife. It is the IBL (integral bar lock). The knife comes with dual thumb studs for opening or the guard can be flipped with your finger.

I have chosen D2 modified from crucible for the blade steel.

The knife comes wicked sharp.

If you looking for the ultimate large folder this is the one.

Here are the pictures I took of the knife.

This is a very nice knife. It is marked Prototype on the back of the blade.

This knife is available if anyone is interested.

What's the asking price? I've been planning on getting a REKAT Sifu, but I like the looks of the Mad Max...

Darrel set the price of these knives at $595.00

He is planning a D/A of this knife but it really isn't needed. The blade is so large and the action so smooth on this knife that it just flies open with a slight flick of the finger. (Same kind of action of the Kershaw Boa, but with no spring needed.)

EVery time I think I'm done buying customs because the factories are doing such a good job, Darrel foils my plans. Awesome job Darrel! A megafolder with seriously nice lines, a lock I can trust, and if I'm not mistaken a Carson-style flipper.

Thanks for the kind words!
With all due respect to Kit, the flipper design on this knife is from Mike Lamprey of England. Mike has been making flippers for many years. Mike and designed a colaboration knife about 6 months ago. We also have a custom colaboration for Brian turner working for a later date.
This style flipper is a double guard also not single .
I think Randal Gilbreth was one of the first knives with a flipper (modern) maybe 10 years ago.

MADD MAXX is my body blade style, with Mikes front end style which I like for the strength and function.
Enjoy!

Well Darrel, if I were to order one now, how long of a back log would there be.
I am having a hard time deciding on the blade style that I want, but should be able to let you know right away.

If the Madd Maxx were to have a pedigree, this would be it's sire, by Mike Lamprey:

It's currently doing (thumb) stud service at Dr. Darrel's breeding farm. The infusion of Ralph genetics has insured that this magnificent line will live on famously, and hopefully reside in homes around the world, doing field work, protection work, and even just being a good housepet. (BTW - did I mention that my dog's papers just arrived from Russia?

)

The collab between Darrel and Mike is one of the most highly anticipated knives I've ever commissioned. They are two of the finest gentleman makers I know, and their combined talent is almost frightening in it's scale.

How'd the show go, DDR? Got pics for me?

I have put my order in for one of these beautiful knives. It should not be long before I own my first custom knife. I have a feeling that this will just be the beginning.

Darrel, is this the new Crucible S125V, a.k.a. 3V+chrome a.k.a. CPM-D2 ?

Please elaborate on your thoughts on this stuff if so! Thanks.

Soon on the knives. I am cutting like a madd mann getting the parts finshed and heat treated!
BTW I have a special treat!
I made just 3 blades in a double ground dagger format with two blood grooves.
biggrin.gif

One blood groove in the center and one near the top of the blade . The blade is 3/4 ground on the top edge! The other groove is on the flat towards the rear top!

The D2 I have ia airdi150. This batch has a little more chrome in it. I just call it mod because of the extra chrome.

I LIKE IT!

The s125v is a cpm 420v upgrade

The 3v has been upgraded also. Should be here anyday now.
The s125v is coming in a few months.

Tough and takes a great edge for a thin grind. .017 before the edge is put on.

Wicked sharp.

Darrel do you have any pictures of the dagger blade? Sure would like to see what it looks like.

Keith Montgomery.

After the emails on the dagger style blade I have decided to make this a standard down the road. It will be available in the 5.5 and 4 in blade style.
