image.jpg looking for pointers, tips on throwing darts. Just bought this cheap board and it came with those small darts. I Opened up the box before I bought it and decided to get these other ones. (Bigger darts)
They aren't that great either, one small part in the back that holds the fin broke off.
Still useable, the fin pops off every so often. I've hinted to my girlfriend that I'd really like darts, and some nicer darts and board would be great if she was thinking of getting me something for my Birthday. I know she already ordered something, she said there's a package arriving and I shouldn't pay much attention to it. I always tell family that they don't need to get me anything I'd rather just have a nice day together and some good food and a movie. They always buy me something anyway, and they say I'm a hard person to buy gifts for. Gratitude comes to mind.

I made measurements to ensure it's at about the correct distances for darts.
how I stand, throw, release, and hold the darts have a lot to do with my success. Haven't watched any videos yet, thought some people on BF would have some expertise in this area.

The best way to get better is to throw them a lot more. Like pool or shooting it's a skill that is built on repetition.

I imagine it is alo like archery in you have to make your throwing technique the same each time. Your arm has to hold the dart in the same ready position each time. Kind of like how an archer always draws his bow to the corner of his mouth.

I think your right, I'm just throwing 1 through 20 then outer bullseye then center bullseye. Keeping my lead arm out, just moving my forearm and following through to the area I'm aiming leaning forward a bit.

Eventually you'll want to get a set of hammer Heads by Bottelsen. I prefer a heavier dart
so I've got a couple sets of 27 gram with 9/32 barrels. The main feature of Hammer heads
is that they're less likely to bounce out if you hit a wire.

a few styles to look at
http://www.edarts.net/st_darts/precision_grips.shtml

Nice set of darts, I seem to throw heavy, trying to get a straighter tragetory with the darts. I got the dart board in my kitchen. Don't mind cooking now, always time to play around when food is cooking.

I weighed the 6 darts I have, 3 are 19.5 grams about and 3 are 17.5 grams. Wonder if that's on purpose or just inconsistency in the manufacturing.

Weight is on purpose. You can find darts in a number of weights and by changing the various parts you can find the perfect dart.
I used to go to a number of pubs that had dart tournaments, good places to learn and practice.

The fewer moving parts in your stroke the better off you are.
I always started with the tip of the dart pointing at the target (you'd be surprised how many don't) so you get a wobble free flight.
When I played a lot I used the heaviest darts I could find at the time. It's been years but I think they are 38 or 40 grams each.
Talk about a thump when they hit the board :)

Contrary to popular belief, your darts should be dull at the point.
Dull will skid off the wire and stick in the board. Sharp may stick on the wire and bounce out.

Tungsten is preferred because you can have more weight in a thinner barrel.
That means you can stack the darts closer together.

I was also a fan of the shafts that allowed the flights to spin around. Fewer deflections that way.

I should really put my board back up....

A good starting point for better darts would be to look through the Unicorn catalog.
Most of my darts are 1980's unicorns from my dad and grandfather, I'm nothing more that a just for fun'er but even I know even the cheapest Unicorns are better than these accydarts.

I’ve had a good board for a bit but have been using $10 darts from Wally World. I just throw for fun in my garage when bored.
My darts were beat up bad (I throw at the bullseye too much:)) so I researched a little and found a moderately priced ($35) set. Two particular darts were mentioned in nearly every review. Fat Cat Predator 80 and Elkadart Razor 80. Went from 19ozs (old set) to 23ozs.

The Fat Cats came in today and I haven’t received the Razors yet. The difference is instantly noticeable. Better build quality and added weight helps reduce dart wobble.
Can’t wait to really try them out tonight. :)

Thanks for all the responses. I've gotten some new darts, I believe they are 80 or 90% tungsten.
So I can make them lighter with the back part of the dart. 3 darts were about $20ish I bought two sets. These are really solid, fly much better in my opinion.

My awesome girlfriend bought me the dart back board, it's really cool. I need to buy a new dartboard for it. It has a attachment for the center of the dart board. My current board won't work. I could probably figure out a way, but it has the baseball dart game on the other side. I was looking at winmau. It's about $90 but I think it's worth it. In due time I'll get it.

I have a Ravenn board, another quality brand.
A quality bristle board makes a HUGE difference.

Thanks chapter 1 explained perfectly what I was saying about throwing the darts, dart technique.
