A tamang!!!!

What's the spine width of that bad boy?

EDIT: Bah, email sent. I have no willpower.

EDIT2: Got it. I've been looking for a tamang for a while. It's funny, in my native language, "tamang" kukri means "correct" kukri, or maybe "THE correct" kukri.

I'm from the Philippines, and we share many words with our Malaysian brethren :D What's "tamang" in Malaysian?

"tamang" in Tagalog means "right" or "correct"
I used to be able to speak a little tagalog and a little tiny bit of Ilocano, mostly swear words of both. Learned a little Espanol too. It used to drive my ex wifes relatives crazy because i could understand most of what they said when they'd talk about me.
Can only remember a few words now.
My son is 1/2 pinoy.
I used to live not all that far from you, Qeth....
When i used to live in the republic, I lived in East Palo Alto and on the West side in San Joe.

Umaasa i mo ang iyong bagong khukuri!
( yes i had to use a translator for most of that! )

R-7 Looks like it would be a good kitchen knife as well...
Love when I stumble onto a sale before any one has posted.... rare thing for HI gear.

Max Power, Some one sent me theirs for sheathing and sharpening and am really impressed with it. The shape is great for skinning and I'm sure that it will cut up food pretty well too. Congrats on the knife! Would love to see a review after you get the knife.

Simpsons fan perchance?

I appreciate the sentiment, Karda :D

Funny how you used to live a mere 40 minute drive away from me.

Cool! Not to derail the thread but, I'm excited for the new season.

What, no love for the H.I. Survival knife or a 12" AK?? It's a great user. :)

The Survival knife is winner, if you are thinking of getting one pull the trigger on this, I got one a few months back and it's a keeper for sure. I love it.

Speaking of the HI Survival Knife, has anyone ever used it to cut down a small tree or bambo, and than made a spear out of the pair? I got one and that was the first this that came to
mind when I held it.

I have a cold steel Bushman which the HI Survival knife is based on and have attached it to my walking stick a few times then proceeded to use it as a spear.

Interesting.... how did you attach it? Any pics? I thought it might be fun to setup a small target a 20-50 feet away and practice spear throwing.

Interesting.... how did you attach it?

It has a hole in the side to put a screw, peg...etc to secure it to the staff.

The hiking stick that I used is actually a Rake/Hoe handle from Lowes that has a metal tip. My bushman fits over the metal tip with a descent friction fit. Been meaning to drill a hole in the Hiking stick for the screw/pin, but have not even though I've had this setup for about 2 years. LOL!

Received the tamang by Vim Kami today. Initial impreaaions:

-The blade is villager finished, with forge marks and scratches, but the over all build is very clean. If this was polished up and sold as non villager, I'd think it'd sell for $295 easy. Vim Kami has an eye for detail.
-Thinner blade isn't as choppy as its thicker chopper brethren, and the kukri is actually lively in the hand.
-handle is about the size of a 15" model in thickness. This is great for me, fits me perfectly.
-sheath is a new style for me, the leather is thicker and more supple. Gray in color. For some reason a rhino applying lotion popped into my head ;p

Overall, the combination of the thinner handle for an 18", the balance, and of course, that awesome tamang blade shape had made me very eager to use this kuk. I might even keep the stock sheath, and I rarely do that with ANY of my knives.

I stand by my assertion that this blade is "tamang tama" (very right) for me.

I'm glad you like it, Qeth!
Just be aware that that khukuri is NOT a wood chopper. It is meant for the small stuff.
