I had just finished my first reply to Ben's post on his new Khuk, when I heard three loud bangs from next door, exactly like a storm door being kicked in. It was (at least a try). The neighbors had loaded out with their Christmas goodies this afternoon, and gone to their relatives. Our Chief is in the hospital, and the other half of the dept. is on vacation, so the town is being covered by the county. They are very very good, but spread thin. The door was slightly dented, so his own noise might have scared him off (the blood-curdling "YARF" from the Cairn might have helped :)). By the time I made the carport, he was a flicker of shadow between me and lighted houses, so there wasn't even an opportunity. Moving targets are SOOOoooo scarce, nowadays. The deputy was seral miles out, finishing another call, and still made it in just ten, but nothing left to do but a house check. The rest of the weekend will be dull. Unless he is stupid enough to come back :D:

don't fancy chasing intruders through the night with a khukuri? ;) :p B.

I walk with a cane, so the procedure is to wing them with the 220, and take your time. Actually, our law prohibits shooting a fleeing felon, unless he "presents a clear, continuing danger to yourself or the public". The only exception seems to be arsonists, who by their very act are a public danger. The culmination of several things over the past several weeks have left me in the mood to shoot someone, and tonight was almost the night. OHHHhhh well.

Oh, I see. So you shoot him in the legs and then you're at perfect liberty to 'tidy up' with a khukuri? ;) :p :) B.

...just one leg...no need to be bloodthirsty, and it's more sporting that way. Now that the adrenaline is wearing off, I'll have to stop with the graveyard humor, and keep an ear out tonight. Most of our local druggies are the ever-unpredictable pill heads with a few meth heads thrown in. They seem to have short attention spans, and can't remember what house they tried last. One, last month, was found crying in the bushes at his last target, complete with pillowcase of goodies. He had parked two blocks away, taken a "refresher" while he worked, and forgot which direction his car was in. Life is SOOOO unfair.

yes-humour aside--it's awful what drugs can drive people to do....in Baltimore I've encountered more than my share of meth-heads, a little bit more aggressive than your average Baltimore beggar.

And I've had friends who have buggered-up their lives with drugs--ended up in gaol or committed into half-houses from over-use of just 'soft' drugs, like ganja. Sad to see it happen. Remember driving a friend out to visit her boyfriend in a county-jail after he'd been convicted of grand theft auto--which he only committed because he was 'hopped-up' and didn't know what he was doing.... It makes me wonder--a bit like the handgun-issue--if it wouldn't be better to have some of it legalised so that there could be more official regulation since there doesn't seem to be anyway of stopping people.... in any case...hope you don't have any other late-night visitors in your neighbourhood, however many functioning legs they have. cheers, B.

You guys are so unfair!

Don't you have any compassion for those "poor" addicts. After all, it is not their faults that Dady gaves them no attention and Mummy was too busy wacthing soaps on TV.

-Does any of you realize how much courage is needed to go in the middle of a (cold) nigh, hurt your foot on someone else's door because the poor B.... reinforced it with metal sheeting?
-Do you realize how much work is involved in ransacking a house when you are desperate for cash, guns , jewelery or pills???

- Has any of you ever faced one of those so-called Law abiding citizen ( a.k.a dum a.. taxpayer) armed with a P220 or worst with a 20" blade.

It's a tough job to have to run when you are out of shape !

your sensitivity and compassion mark you as a man with a true soul....like the bottom of a flic's boot HEHEHEHE

One of Blue's buddies (way back on the Phantom thread) kept saying that when they were trying to kick in my basement door:rolleyes:

If you have to shoot him put a hole in the forehead. There is little point in fooling around.

Been making those holes for 55 years, now - I know where they go :D

Wal,

I now live alone...for close counters I prefer the kuk.

For as my father said when I introduced him to my lil collection, "These things dont cut....THEY SEVER!"

And for the more distant things I am making a pole arm.:D

Dave, all the training, formal and otherwise, that I've had over the years has emphasized the fact that you cannot depend on the deterrent factor of just showing a weapon. In thousands of cases each year (according to John Lott) the sight of a handgun will turn away an attacker, but you cannot depend on this entirely.

That said, I have had one occasion to show a Khuk in this manner (a 12" Sirupati) and the effect was startling. We all have an age-old "lizard brain" fear of being cut, but as your Dad said, Khuks bring about an instant image of dismemberment that glares, while the "cut" instinct just flashes. The magic stone finish didn't hurt a bit, either.

Yeah, neither does a 2 hand hold on a GRS with Yvsa's personal touch on the edge.

(What is that line again??? Oh, Yeah...)
Go ahead punk, MAKE MY DAY!!! ;)
