Does anyone know of a database which contains a list of factory angles on production knives?
The reason Im asking, is because when I am resharpening a knife for the first time, I have a little trouble figuring out whether the bevel is 30 degrees inclusive or 40 degrees etc etc. It takes some trial and error and a little guesswork as I don't have an angle finder.
Neither benchmade or Spyderco seem to list that particular attribute of any given knife on the product description page (at least as far as I can tell)
Just wondering if anyone can help me out here.

Thanks

Companies may shoot for a particular number, but as the knives are usually sharpened by hand on a belt sander, the angle can vary greatly model to model and even between different examples of the same model. That said, spyderco shoots for 30° inclusive, and is usually pretty good about getting close to their mark. Benchmade on the other hand, is all over the map, although the general consensus is their knives come with much higher bevel angles than most. From what I have seen from benchmade, most tend to be in the neighborhood of 45° inclusive, some 40°, some 50°. The very first thing I do with any benchmade knife is reprofile it.
