Found how to date the blades ( from symbels or lines ) my question is simlpe i hope what dose it mean if the ( BUCK ) faces the tang or the blade?? no one seams to talk about this I have missed a few knifes i would have bought but the ( BUCK ) faced the wrong way... whitch wAy should it face ???

Your question would have gotten more responses if posted in the Buck Knives portion of the forum which is where all the Buck guys hang out. There are others much more knowledgeable about your knife than myself but I give it a try.

Your post does not say which model of knife you have. Your tang stamp is considered an inverted stamp where the stamp is read with the tip of the knife pointing down. The inverted tang stamp was done for a short period of time I believe in 1972. If you do a search using the words "Buck inverted" you will find more information in some of the threads that pop up.

JERMELAROME105, welcome to Bladeforums. I'm moving your thread to the Buck subforum.

Jer, Scroll up to the stickey that says Buck Date Codes.

Welcome to the Buck Forum.

Let us know if that doesn't answer your question.

Just to support but perhaps clarify what gedlicks has already said. Inverted knives (read point down) are 1972 or earlier. Upright (read point up) are late 1972 or 1973 and later. What gedlicks meant by a 'short time' in 1972 refers to the model number. The knife tang orientation changed from inverted to upright within a year after model numbers were added to the tang. Of course these things are generalizations, there are always exceptions.

So which ones did you think were wrong? The inverted or the upright? If you thought they were marked wrong, wouldn't that have made them more desireable as a factory error? ;)

Tank you so much i'm a little more sure of my self... Missed a very nice knife : ( I wont miss it again : ) what about the red or darker slivers in the handel?

1961-1968 Buck used a product called Bone hard fiber, as the spacer material, in 1969 Buck changed to red micarta and still uses it to this day. Telling the difference is an art, and even the Pro's seem to make mistakes at times. ...
