Hello!

Looking for some expert advice....

I know the Buck 102 I have was made between 1973 and 1986 from the Buck dating chart. It's in wonderful shape. Is there any way I can zero in on the year any closer?

Please see my bad photos. Although the color is difficult to see the knife has two reddish brown spacers near the pommel and two in the cross guard. Not being an expert in Buck knives at all - but while comparing my knife to others, there seem to be more spacers used in the construction of my knife and the spacer material is a different color than the material I see used in knives of more recent manufacture.

Would anyone know the material that the spacers are made of? Using a magnifying glass the spacers almost seem to have a wood grain pattern - although I am sure it's not wood.

Again, difficult to see in the photos there is definitely one big rivet through the pommel.

I am curious to see if this knife is a common or more collectible version of the 102. I am very interested in and would appreciate any and all info pertaining to age and spacers.

Thanks!!

I'm not an expert on dating your 102, but there are folks here who can help. Sometimes it takes a while to get a response, but they'll be along shortly.

I have seen the red spacers referred to as BHF, or Bone Hard Fiber.

Posting photos on Blade Forums requires either posting a link to a hosting site (such as Imgur, Photobucket etc) or purchasing a gold membership through the forum (account upgrade). I cannot recommend a good hosting site, but again there are folks here who can.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, I can't seem to include the photos....
