JUST bought A nice old Camillus Camp knife, the store owner, said he thinks it is from the 1930 or 40's and I would like to find out the actual period it is from. THE knife has four blades, main cutting blade, screw driver/cap lifter on one side and awl/reamer plus old style can opener on the other it has what appears to BE stag or bone scales with USA shield and a bail, any help would be greatly appretiated BLADE IS MARKED AS FOLLOWS CAMILLUS on first line, cutleryco on second, camillus ny.on third,USA. ON FOURTH

Based on the description of the marking, it could be from 1919 to 1946. If the marking is only on one blade, it's probably from 1941-1946 (from Goins).

If you can post a pic of the can opener, the date can be narrowed down somewhat as these changed throughout the years.

p.s. Knife has 4 line tang stamp on knife blade only.I own a few other Camillus knives, until i got this one, Had forgoten how much i loved these fine knive's always wanted one when i was a boy scout 40+ years ago but couldn't afford one

Oddly, by coincidence, I found one of these Camillus "camp knives" in a little store yesterday. it is sitting in the case because a worker went off to college and took the case keys wit5h him. The blade is marked "Camillus" and dated 1994. the lady at the store thinks she has a few more in the storage shed. the knife has a bail and is sturdy looking, and the can opener actually looks functional, but is pretty long and curved. I am going to pick one up as soon as the store gets its key back. Are these knives as good a user as they look? On the opinion of the people here, is it worth picking up a few if I can? The price is $29.95 for one.

ONLY YOU can determin IF the purchase is worth it.When I was a young man I learned that no one could use up a knife or any other piece of equiptment quicker than an 18 or 19 year old U.S. GI. THE Cam. Marine Combat Knife ,Camillus U.S.M.C. Demo Knife, and other CAM. knives we were issued held up to the hard use I think if you deside to buy, Keep it sharp.keep it clean ,and put a drop of oil on it once and awhile, and it can be passed down to your grand kids

MIKE MACINTOSH,
Your knife is a WWII era camp/utility knife (#14 pattern). The "USA" shield indicates that the knife was made for the U.S. Army.
