Ya'll know when this can was made? Picked it up hiking in the state park yesterday. We still had pull open cans when I became legal, but this is a steel can opened with a can opener. Early 70's?

I'd say '60's. I used to collect cans, and most were pull tabs in the 70's.

Would be cool if there was an INFI church key made....

Like the tan RatWeiler too. My nephew got one just like it. I like tan handled Busses and Rats.

Good choice.

Hmmmmm... Red X brand?? Mid 60's? :p :D

Edit: I BLAME PORKERSON!!! Right after I reply, the pic appears  :grumpy:

I've got to say the 60s. Always remembered the pull tops from the 70s.

Awhile ago, we were cleaning trash from a beach over here and a kid found a can with a old style pull top and was baffled by it. Never seen one before, he was born in the late 80s.

The only other time I had seen one a friend of mine showed me an old Coors can he found in the Rockies that was steel and opened with a can opener like this one.

When I started college in '86, we saved all our Coors Light pull tabs (that was the beer at the time) and fastened them together to make a chain. It went all around the dorm room by the end of the year. Wonder what they do for entertainment now? ;)

Getting rid of the pull tabs was a good idea.

I asssume the steel cans were lined so it wouldn't affect the taste of the beer?

I knew I could count on you Hogs for your vast knowledge on this topic. :D

Mike,

My wife got the Weiler for me for Christmas. I was thrilled to see the two tone color.

If you're ever in a state park and see an old CBL can, start probing the ground for PVC capsules.

Not sure if Jerry made it this far south with his PVC capsules :p

My wife did a search on line today and found out the first Budweiser can that did not require a "church key" (as my barber referred to it today) was 1963, or that was when the first pull top was made, so it is at least that old.

Deciduous: Actually, he buried one at DeSoto State Park a few years ago while attending the Blade Show in Atlanta. It has been found, though.

Mike - Cool! FYI - this particular park is only about five miles south of Toomer's corner ;) Perhaps you have frequented it yourself? :D

Yes I do. I can hear the stadium on home game days - that's how close I live. I moved here to work on a project up by Alex City that is currently on hold. I do double duty in Alabama, NY and elsewhere, so right now I travel. Hartsfield Jackson and I are close friends.

Didn't you tell me* you retired from Alabama Power / SoCo and you are an EE?

*Me would be for "Woodrat" on SRKW.

Gregg

Yeah, that's me. BSEE from Auburn. Are you familiar with the Reeltown area? I am down there every other weekend to check up on my mother.

I have driven through that area on 49 before from I-85, but that's about it. I used to have a condo in Stillwaters when I first came to Alabama, so I know the area pretty well.
