A wealth of answers here, all which I appreciate. Can anyone here fill me in on the dates that the various Camillus tang marks were used? Like, for how long have they been using the current one? And what is '4 line' and such?

Hi SGT. Strawberry,

The Camillus 4-line mark was used from 1902-till end of WW2.The marking went:

Camillus
Cutlery Co
Camillus NY
USA

The next marking is:

Camillus
New York
USA

The Camco Marking started in 1948.

There's probably a few markings I missed, but these are the most common.

Hope this Helps :D !!!

Sgt Strawberry,
I'll make sure our historian, TOm Williams knows of your post. Tom isn't in the plant everyday, but ususally every other day or so. He will be able to answer you question in detail.

Thanks for the interest!

Camillus Cutlery has used many different tang stampings since 1902. In addition to the four line stamping previously mentioned several three line stamps were used. Most knives made after WWII used the three line stamping with CAMILLUS underlined. Although the four line stamping was used up until the end of WWII, many post-war knives incorporated many of the war era parts that were in production at the end of the war. In 1948 the CAMCO brand was introduced. Other brands and tang stampings used by Camillus include: Kent, COMUS, Syracuse Knife, Kastor, Clover, SWORD BRAND, MUMBLY PEG, etc.
If you need information on a particular knife, just e-mail me I will gladly research it for you.
