I just realized that the anticipated dates for the gathering (June 12-16) include Father's Day weekend. Because of the volume of replies that I've had I'd like to know if we should keep it on that weekend or should it be moved up a week (June 5-9) or maybe even to Memorial Day weekend? Please let me know your preferences.

UPDATE: I have narrowed the site down to several possible locations, soon to be scouted out and a final choice to be made. Siskiyou National Forest has been most helpful and cooperative.

Several 'workshops' are being designed, including topics such as primitive fire starting, orienteering, tool making, and maybe even some primitive metallurgy. :D That means knives! :D :D (The area has iron nuggets lying on the surface.)

If you have questions, please feel free to email me directly.

hola coyotlviejo,

As we discussed, we will now be able to shuttle people from either the Grants Pass bus station or the Medford Airport.

We might want to make arrangements for someplace with a big parking lot. That way attendees can park their vehicles and we'll shuttle them out to the Primitive site. I suspect the place you are looking at won't have much parking.

Of course, if someone should show up to the Primitive site on horseback, they are on their own. :-)

I scouted out a location this last weekend. We have a winner! We'll be at the eastern base of the Coastal Siskiyous, just outside the Kalmiopsis Wilderness. There is abundant water, even though the location is more like a desert than anything. It is along a nice size stream with swimming and fishing holes. There is also plenty of wood for shelters, tools and fires. The hike in is 2 miles if we can't get permission to cross private land, about 1/2 mile if we can get permission.

Oh yeah, dates are changed to June 5-9 so that we don't interfere with Fathers Day.

Accomodations will be the shelters we build from native materials and a latrine area located back away from the stream and nearby springs. You need to bring food, as there is little wild food available in the area.

Joeha- thanks for the suggestion. I don't know exactly how many people we'll have, or how they'll arrive, but I'll look into getting a secure parking area. The shuttle is a good idea - I wouldn't want people's personal vehicles sitting alongside the road at the trailhead. Some of the local yokels like to browse the inside of sitting vehicles.

Hmm... Details, details, details... I'll keep you all posted as more comes up.
