I've had this 120 for a long time, and am in love with it. I know it's not a very old pre-86, because there's only one spacer at the hilt. But it's absolutely flawless, not a scratch anywhere on it. The original box and papers (and sheath) are also in perfect, crisp condition. I've seen quite a few "NIB" 120s, but never one as minty as mine. But I am interested to date it, if I can. I am attaching some pictures below. Much appreciated if anyone can date it!

My guess would be mid 70’s. I think Buck went to the three spacer configuration on the 119 & 120’s earlier than the other models. Four spacer 119 & 120’s are much less common from what I’ve seen. I believe the1 piece box started around 1978ish.

What topgun03 said. I would say '73/'74 to about '77. '77 because of the box. Without the box your range would push to '81.
If you have any paperwork look on the bottom for a printers code. That would give you a can't be older than date.

You said you owned it for a Long time....when did you buy it?

Is it possible to figure out an exact year?
I don't think so, from what I've seen not many of the pre 86 Buck's can be nailed down to a specific year unless you have a receipt and even then it could have set in the store for a while. Date on your paperwork is 1/73 so most likely no older than that but could be as old as 77ish. I bet Buck ordered that paperwork in bulk an probably used it up over the course of a few years.

Dang, I didn't even notice that! You have good eyes ... it's just a coincidence that that showed up in the photo. So to be clear - does this mean Buck made or shipped the knife in 1/73? Or does 1/73 refer to the edition of the paperwork? The "1/73" is in a different print, and looks like it was stamped, which makes me think maybe it's tied to the actual knife manufacturing or shipping. This is the best clue I've had - thanks!

The paperwork can be older than the knife. I believe 1/73 is when the paper was printed and Buck probably had enough printed to last multiple years.

Wasn't the transition time from four spacer to two spacer in 81? I would date the knife to 1981

Haebbie
