Besides preparing a car based BOB kit and a small pack BOB kit, I'm thinking seriously about a longer term, you must stay in your hoem due to power outage.bad weather, etc.

A few questions related to that specifically:

A long time ago I bought some life raft ration in the foil pouches, quite tasty as I recall. I think it was the mainstay stuff. Is the Datrex better? Are there different flavors? How much should I order, or should I just get a case? Where's the best place to order from?

What about "turnkey" food systems like the avian flu 2 person pack: http://www.nitro-pak.com/product_info.php?cPath=38_81&products_id=1327
Is that the total food contants? Looks more to me like a 2 week supply to me. ( Ok I think I se e now, each "1" item is a #10 can of the stuff.)

Or maybe just a couple of 72 hours kits:

Thanks.

Those pics are misleading , you'd be surprised how much can be packed into the right sized box.
The Datrex I have tastes like a.... really concentrated cookie of sorts, doesnt make sense huh.. It is not food in the traiditional sense as in beef stew or bacon and beans but it will do the job in a pinch.
How much you should order is up to you, how much do you think you will need ?
I would diversify my foodstuffs , as I have done.
A few cases of MRE's , some Datrex "bricks" , regular store bought canned goods and dry rices and legumes , dont forget the water !

Exactly. I guess I was thinking if it's a 72 hour kits I'd be more inclined both take along eat "cookies".

If you're planning to stay at home, why bother with ration food. We keep a food shelf in the basement full of all the easily prepared foods we like.
