Just went and bought my daughter her first knife. She wasn't sure what she wanted and wasn't picky about color. Wanted to get her something useful as well as something she could use for self defense. As she walks to work sometimes. Got her a Byrd hawkbill because I am in love with the spyderco hawks. She kinda got the bug for a knife since I helped her pick out a knife for her boyfriend for his birthday. Gonna see how she cares for this one before I buy her a more expensive folder. Any other dads out there have daughters who are armed. LOL. Two more years til she can have a handgun.

My daughter's first spyderco was an original endura with the clip molded into the handle. The serrations were sharpened to nibs and the tip and clip were gone. We got it for $5 at the brownsville ne flea market. She wanted it, but loved it after it was cleaned and sharpened. It's so cheap, there is no worry if it's lost, however she's had it since she's been 12. She wanted one a little smaller, so i got her a gun show ps delica for $25. Then as graduation gift i let her pick any knife from my collection...she walks away with my original matriarch, for a "late night campus friend." She chose that over customs, a sebenza, etc.

"Daughter's First Knife" to "she walks away with my original Matriarch" in one post. That is why I love the internet, forums, and BF in particular. :-)

I got my daughter her first knife for Christmas this year. It is a Tattoo Dragonfly. She has been proudly walking around with it clipped in her right front pocket and using it quite a bit to open packages. :)

All of this gives me hopes for a day in which more people carry a good knife. I love hearing about new knifers! Worry not though, I'm doing my part. In my three years of knifing six more people own Spydercos or Benchmades.

From one Dad to another, you did well my friend. Glad she is so smart.

My daughter fell in love with my Tattoo Dragonfly last year, so I got her the whole Tattoo collection. Dragonfly, Ladybug, Grasshopper and Cricket. She always carries the dragonfly and usually has one of the others on her as well.

When my granddaughter was about 9 i bought her a Ladybug 2 with a rescue profile tip. Figured she was less likely to injure herself or other kids. Worked out well. When my cousin turned 21 i gave her a CRKT bear claw for SD. No problems to date but i am glad she has it.

That's awesome. Could have had a CRK and chose a Spydie, nice.

Well for self defense, the matriarch is unique, like the spydie edge :)
