My daughter wants a pocket knife for her 10th birtday. I want to get her a spyderco, most likely a dragonfly. I was trying to find the ones they used to make with the spider cut out in the blade. Does anyone remember what they were called or have any idea where I can find one?

Thanks!

Also take a look at the Ladybug. From time to time, they do a batch in pink FRN, so if you look hard, you can probably find one. It would make a perfect gift for your daughter. Just make sure you teach her how to use it safely and wisely.

I recently bought a Dragonfly (Stainless handle, serrated). I'd say that an FRN plainedge (not the serrated) Dragonfly would be a very good choice for a ten year old girl. The handle's design provides for a good, safe grip and the blade shape and grind are great for all-round utilty.

The more I handle my Dragonfly the more I'm impressed with it. I'm even stopping strangers on the street and telling them to buy one (a joke).

I'm probably jaded because I love them so much but have you looked into a Cricket? Its usually more expensive than a comparable fragonfly but what a blade.

They also come in pink but depending on your daughter she might prefer black, carbon fiber, alunimum or black/pearl. I've shown pink Crickets to ladies before and had them quickly tell me in no uncertain terms that they did not want a pink knife. YMMV.

As to the Dragonfly, it clearly has a more traditional edge and some prefer the FRN pocket clip for tradition and economy. Can you really go that far wrong with a Spyder?
