We all know that that Dave makes great knives, but I thought you might enjoy seeing a bell bracket that he did for me.

Very nice! I've got Dave working on a metal project for me (not a knife) that should be ready soon... :)

Thanks Peter it was a fun project but there must be a story about that bell. Red snake yours is coming soon.

really enjoyed looking through Dave's photo album way back when I had the good fortune to visit him and Andrea.
This is a nice little wall bracket to be sure, but some of the stuff he's made is insane both in scale and in creativity.
Not to mention he's a hell of a beat poet :)
Truly a renaissance man!

Very nice. David's blacksmithing is where I first heard his name. I had just started getting into custom and hand made knives and saw a tv show that was a competition. I believe it was called Best In The Business. When I saw it I thought I bet that guy could make a great knife. Little did I know. Great stuff Peter. David is a true craftsman.

I actually did a little internet research about the bell.

It is designed to the 1918 specifications of the U.S. Navy. So it probably dates from the 1920s or 1930s.

It is marked USN, because it was used on an unnamed vessel.

The length of the vessel, it was on, was between 26 and 65 feet, because the bell weighs 20 pounds.

I think, a Captain's Gig is a fair possibility for its use.
