David Bowie Dead, Age 69

That sucks, I didn't like everything he did, hell probably less than half but he was a talented artist nonetheless. He left a huge body of work and a legacy that won't be easy to live up to.

My wife's gonna be bummed.

RIP David Bowie

WTF -- I was just listening to a story about his new album -- no mention he was sick -- crap!!!!

I never really listened to his music, but it's a shame to see an artist die in a world that's increasingly dull and gray.

Truly a sad day, and David Bowie was one of the most inspirational musicians and artists for me. May he rest in peace.

Labyrinth wouldn't have been the same without him!

It feels like no one dies of old age anymore. Seems like cancer claims us all at some point..

I grew up on his later music, the Heathen and Reality albums stand out, among others. I'm so very sad to see him go, sadder that he was lost early to cancer.

My condolences to his children.

May I please quote ....

Ashes to ashes, dust to stardust. Your brilliance inspired us all. Goodbye Starman.

I liked some of his music, some not so much. He marched to his own beat and did what he wanted to.

The good ones do that. I also liked a lot of his stuff, but some not so much. Seen him in concert once years ago when he was very popular. His death sort of bummed me because I know he was a good one.

Long live the Goblin King...

Amongst many othrr accomplishments, He (and Bing) is immortalized through their Drummer Boy rendition every Christmas...

Fighting a losing 18 month battle against liver cancer while at the same time recording a new album. Pretty amazing way to go out. Many people say that Andy Warhol and the guys from Velvet Underground brought rock music into the art world and changed the way we think about a live show, but this guy and a handful of others get my vote as far as showing most of us non-artsy types what could be done. RIP.

A good Bowie story.

My best friend used to be in the music business. Back in the mid 70's he had a pop/rock band in NYC. He had a deal with the sound guy at Electric Lady Studios to do his sound work in the wee hours of the AM. He probably paid for it in beer or grass. No one was ever there but him and his band. They were working on mixing a new song he had written when they heard someone coming in. He looked to see who it was .... It was David Bowie and John Lennon. He just said ,"Hello", ducked back in the booth, and kept on mixing. He and the other sound guy decided to start his song by cutting the tape of the opening sustained chord, reversing and splicing it, and using that as the opening sound. It made a rising Buzz sound. He left before anyone asked why he was there. His song never was picked up by a label or saw any play beyond his band and their records/CDs ( which almost no one bought). When he heard Fame, he recognized the opening note as being done the same way ... Coincidence - probably, but who knows. Maybe they (or the studio sound man) thought it sounded good - like I said, who knows?
Turned out that Lennon and Bowie were there to lay down the tracks for Fame, and did it all in one session.

A great loss. Liked a lot of his earlier work, though it was out well before I was aware of it. Saw him in concert 4 times back in the '80s, '90s and I think the last time in '06. He will be missed.
