Hi everyone
In a way of saying thank you to everyone who has been ever so nice to me on this forum I thought it might be nice to do a giveaway. I currently have a prototype sheath I made for a BGAD up for adoption.
The only change I made to the final version is the mouth where I made it snugger to the handle. However the retention is fine you can still shake it up and down without fear of it falling out (its a butterfly sheath so most of the retention comes from the sheath hugging the blade) and the edge sanding (I'll try and sand it more when I have a chance but my neighbour and my sander are mortal enemies!).
To spice things up I asked Jaxx if I can do it as a photo challenge and he said yes (thanks Jaxx)!!
Here is the challenge:
- Please post a pic of your BGAD in any photogenic environment of your choice.
-extra points for black+red micarta/G10 or white/ivory G10
-extra points for mosaic pins
-one pic per knife
-coated BGAD only (coating makes a bit of difference in thickness)
-no classic AD unfortunately as it has a different blade profile
One apology is that I am only a mere hobbyist who has recently started making sheaths so my work probably will fall short in quality compared to the more experienced smiths out there with stars and stripes on their epaulette. However as far as I can see it should be ok (pic below).
Prototype with larger mouth:
Mouth post-redesigning:
The sheath is made from burgundy latigo, hand stamped and hand threaded.
Its by no means a requirement but if you could very kindly give me some feedback on the design and build quality that would be lovely too.
The challenge is open from today for a week. I'm not sure if mods and sheathsmakers usually hold back on these challenges but please don't hesitate to apply. I owe a big thank you to everyone on this forum.
Sorry its not the perfect product but I believe every safe sheath should be given a chance to shine so here goes
If you have any questions please ask away!
Finally Jerry thank you for designing such a nice knife it is by far the most fun knife to make sheaths for!
