It's heavy, has a 7-inch blade and it's supposed to be a QVC favorite for cooking. My sister showed it to me tonight and I have no clue what the blade steel is (first sign of a bad deal). Just that it's a "Japanese steel."

I'd buy a ceramic knife for these sort of things and I'd never buy a knife unless I knew what kind of steel (and reputation) a company had. Being the cautious type, I doubt QVC reviews. But I trust the reviews here.

Can anyone tell me whether this knife is decent of a dud?

(I'm not sure how much she paid.)
