Here is a very nice SAN MAI TANTO from my buddy David Mirabile

Blade is 13 inches long and has a W2 Core Clad in A203E

Davids did the fittings in fossilized ivory and artifacts

Tsuba is wrought iron

Absolutely bonkers. My favorite part is the guard, and the san mai is beautiful!

Thank you and yes he is

His little sister is only 5 pounds behind

They are monsters for 5 months old :)

Davids work is so inspirational in so many ways

Not only do they have such a timeless visceral look ....... when you hold and especially wield them they come alive

You know a few weeks ago at the NY show I had my WAK on display and it was probale the most picked up piece on the table

People would ask and of course I would hand them the piece unsheathed and the first thing they would say is wow that's amazingly light

The next thing they would say was ...... what a weapon

You don't hear that much at the shows ..... hell we don't even like to refer to blades as such in today's world

But Davids blades scream wield me ...... cut with me

They literally seem to want to be used

Funny story

Matt Diskin who had not seen my piece was handling it saying boy this thing is nasty

Without thinking he did a light snap cut like motion into our display tables edge

Now mind you .... there was a table cloth on the table

I looked at him and said ..... Matt There's a metal edge on the table :(

He said no ..... Blade still embedded slightly in table :)

We lifted the cloth and sure enough a metal band

We inspected the edge and .......... nothing

We laughed and said ....... David got the heat treat right :)

Remember my blade is mystery steel ...... David found an old axle in a mine in Alaska and forged my blade from it

Pretty impressive

Old school bladesmith making stuff that would look right in a painting of a Samurai from hundreds of years ago or in the latest Star Wars Movie and the best part is ........ they really work :)

Decalescence is a beautiful, wonderful thing. :)

Enjoyable, educational video highlighting an exceptional piece. Thanks. I bet Matt's heart jumped when he saw that metal table edge revealed. Glad the story had a happy ending.

We both had a chuckle

I'm very confident with Davids heat treat and edge geometry :)

Beautiful work, no doubt about that!!
Well documented too!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

'Very nice' is a bit of an understatement:D

Great pics of the pooches as well. You cant help but smile when you see them. Very charming.

Just superb. Love the pup!

(You claim you were to list it, but I saw no such thing. Gone before posting?)

Good thread!

All I can say, is that it is readily apparent that David has a direct line to the divine. And, your beautiful pups, Joe, are fit to be guardians of the gate. Mike

Joe, I always look forward to seeing your threads with Davids creations.

You have a great collection, and get to handle the rest of the cool stuff too. I find Davids Work very desirable and inspirational. Spoke with him very briefly at the Blade Show, and told him as much, he is very approachable, as are you. Your both an valuable asset to the Handmade Knife community.

I enjoy seeing your pups!
