does David Winston hang around here? I just dropped you an email, sir.

does anyone have both david winstons n gene ingrams? how do they compare in fit n finish and the SHARPNESS factor:D ? I'm looking for objective comparisons - I understand that both are really good makers with bang for the buck and top notch service n quality.

who makes the sharper knife, all things equal? any reviews?

i'm asking as I've just realised that a lot of us have different ideas on what a sharp knife is...I've handled some customs which were not shaving sharp, and some productions which were scary sharp. I've also had well-known makers tell me confidently that their edges will slice through cigarette paper no problemo, and others tell me that they have the kind of tooth aggresive edge that'll slice through meat like butter, yet shave the hair off your face.

best edge I've seen so far is in my delica vg10, but I've not handled many customs.

I don't have the pleasure of owning any Ingram's. His neighbor always takes my money first. But in my opinion, you can't go wrong with either. Winston's, now I own a couple :D

Every single knife I have purchased from Mr.Winston has been hair popping sharp and extremely well constructed.

I recently got a Winston neck knife. You can see it here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=273530&highlight=winston

I don't own any Ingrams' so I can't comment on those, but my Winston knife is extremely well fitted. Its also hair poppin sharp. I highly recommend Winton's knives.

Hey TBG...do you happen to have a more detailed pic of the knife right above the key? If so could you e-mail it to me with some specs...it looks interesting. Thanks.

I have a David Winston "Key" and a wharncliff whittling knife. Both came shave sharp and hold the edge very well. Nice thin flat grinds, and easy to sharpen. His knives are a bargain. The fit & finish are excellent.

I just recieved a D2 and polished cow bone from Gene and it is spectacular. Extremely sharp, mirror polish blade, fit and finish are without flaw. I like his little touches as well because the sheath will fit up to a 2" belt and he includes a leather thong. I am waiting to recieve a Winston D2 and Elk and I will get back to you on a comparison. Both of these knives can be seen on the knife exchange under custom makers. With Bow season just around the corner in New York I will let you know how they perform if you are interested.

yes please, if you will. thanks. I know everyone says gene's knives are sharp as sin, but haven't heard much about winston's D2 knives. both are hardened to rockwell 61.5 or so and cryoquenched, I think and both are flat ground. would like comparisons and reviews.
