Hey guys I recieved a custom David Yellowhorse buck knife awhile ago as a present and has been in a box for awhile. I was just wondering how rare it is and how many were made. Maybe even the value of it as I have no information about it. I love the piece and want to put it in a better display. I attached a picture of it ...the link is here http://imgur.com/uyMvEhS

Why cant I post a picture?

Welcome to the Blade Forums... You have a 112 and it looks sweet... You can't talk about value here on the forum,
only if you are a paying gold member or so... Some one will be here to tell you more about your knife... ITE

As ITE said, it is an "Eagle" Yellowhorse Custom done on a Buck 112 frame. The information that I have is that 1276 were originally produced, although I also know that those published numbers are not always very accurate, but it is one of the more common YH 112's. Furthermore, as ITE stated, information on value cannot be given here unless you are a Gold Member or higher. Your best bet would be to look under completed auctions at the "auction site" and that will give you a pretty good idea as to its current value which I can tell is almost always less than the original suggested retail.

Nice thanks !, do you know the rarity on it? Anything else you can tell me about it?

If it's a common D/Y knife, it's not that rare... If he only made a run of 10 - 50 of them, that would be rare to me...
When he made over 1000 of them, I would say it's not rare at all... That's just me...
Most of his knives come in a wooden display box... Did yours...

:)

So how does not having the box affect its value? Worst news my girlfriend was looking at it and somehow chipped the tip of the blade head small chip but its there

jghali, again we can't talk about VALUE... But lots of us collector's like having all the paper work and boxes that are knives come in and some don't care...
The tip can be fixed... But if you ever sell it to a collector or anyone you should tell them about the tip, even if you fix it... It's only right and the right thing to do...

Or, just call it a loss....send it to me, and I will sharpen it, then use the heck out of it for years ;)

Ok....just kidding :)

jghali,
Welcome to the Buck knife area of Blade Forums, I see you are a relative new member, perhaps a better read of the forum rules are in order so you know where and how you can seek prices and sell and trade.

Folks answering your questions have been helpful but have followed forum rules. Let me sum up their responses.

You have one of the more often seen DY 112s on the major auction site. The chip will hurt your value. Having boxes for knives that are not used keeps there values higher. That's just the way collecting is. You can send it back to Buck and they will grind out the chip and polish up your knife. It will slightly reshape the blade. I would call their customer service number first for details.

You are welcome here to discuss Buck knives, but some folks drop in once asking for value quotes when they should not and we seldom hear from them again. Good luck on further investigation.
