Anyone out there own one? I just picked up my first at a local gunshow today. Its a 16in blade, short sword, serial number 001. I love it. Just wondering what everyone thinks of his knives?

I wrote a similar post about Dawson Knives a few days ago. Came across Barry's table at the Blade Show. First time seeing this makers work. Was extremely impressed with the quality for the price, especially the damascus versions, which all feature Alabama Damascus from Brad Vincent (I believe). Even the non-damascus had excellent filework on the blade spine and top-quality unblemished woods and natural materials on the handles. The Dawson blades were all extremely sharp, in fact, probably sharper than 99% of the blades that I saw or handled.

Walking around the custom maker area of the show, I saw a lot of, well, "unpolished" work selling for a lot more than Dawson's prices. Also, had a chance to talk to Barry and he was very down-to-earth and friendly. That goes a long way in my book. IMO, great maker with good custom products at somewhat of a value price, since many consider him underrated. Good score on the short sword!!

I have a couple of his knives (guess I should show pics, sorry)

A small hunter with Micarta scales, and one of his "Spike" knives with Japanese style wrap "handle". They're both really nicely made, and the prices were very reasonable.

I guess he has some sort of arrangement with Cold Steel about The Spike, because Cold Steel markets a mass produced version of it - and Cold Steel credits Barry Dawson as the designer.
